Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at the University of San Francisco (USF) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Biochemistry to begin August 2016.

Job Responsibilities

We offer ACS-certified BS degrees in Chemistry and Chemistry with Biochemistry concentration and a thesis-based MS degree. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research in this context. Specific teaching responsibilities will comprise undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in Biochemistry and General Chemistry, including an upper-division experimental biochemistry course. The Lo Schiavo Center for Science and Innovation, opened in Fall 2013, features state-of-the-art teaching labs and classrooms.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A biochemistry-oriented experimental research program is preferred; proposals that emphasize BS / MS student participation and demonstrate potential for securing external funding will merit particular consideration. Shared instrumentation supported by department staff includes: NMR spectrometer (500 MHz, with autosampler), FluoroMax-4, FTIR/Raman, AAS, multilabel plate reader, electrochemical workstation, UV-VIS, HPLC, GC, and GC/LC-MS. The new Fletcher Jones Microscopy Center is equipped with confocal and fluorescence microscopes, SEM, and flow cytometers.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry, excellent written and oral communication skills, an appreciation of USF’s mission as a Jesuit liberal arts institution, and a dedication to teaching undergraduates and establishing a vibrant experimental research program in support of that mission.
